This Children's Privacy Policy ("Policy") was created to help children, teens and parents understand how Bank of America companies that use the name Bank of America collect, use, store and share Children's information in accordance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act ("COPPA") and applicable state laws. Here we will walk you through our Policy along with key terms you will want to know.
Parents this outlines our Privacy Policy for Children and Teens under 18 years old, providing key information that can help you understand how we protect their data when using our Services. We encourage you to review this Policy with your Child and/or Teen. We have included a Privacy Rights ("Rights") section which outlines the Rights afforded to Children and Teens, including instructions on how you can exercise your Rights as a Parent. This Policy should be read in conjunction with the additional notices on our Consumer Privacy Page (including our Online Privacy Notice), all designed to help you understand how Bank of America manages privacy.
Children and Teens, we created this Policy to help you learn about data privacy and explain how we keep your information safe when using our Services. Some words or topics might be confusing, so we suggest that you read it with an adult in case you have any questions.

How does Bank of America keep my information safe?
Keeping your information safe is very important to us. We store it carefully and only use it for the reasons we collected it. We follow strict rules and use strong protections so your information doesn't get lost or seen by anyone who shouldn’t see it. To make sure your information is only used the way it should be, we apply the highest privacy settings when we can.
What kind of information does Bank of America collect about me?
A. Personal Information
"Personal Information" is information we collect online that is unique to you such as your name, birthdate, address, and any Identification (ID) that you may get from the government such as a driver’s license, passport, or Social Security Number. We collected some Personal Information from your Parent if they set up Services for you. There may be times we ask you for this information to help us identify you, such as if you contact us to get help logging into the account.
B. Account Data and Features
"Account Data" is information we collect about how you use the account. This information can tell us the location of your mobile device, mobile phone number, credit or debit card number, or other payment information. We collect this type of information when you make a purchase or log into the account.
We may also collect information if you use features on our website or mobile apps. This information helps us understand how you use the account, such as if you interact with learning tools that teach you about spending or saving money.
Erica®, our virtual assistant, is a feature available to those at least 13 years old. Erica is a computer that can help you do things with the account when you talk or text with it. Some accounts may not have Erica, but if you do, remember Erica is a computer and you don't need to share your Personal Information with it.
If you have online access to the account, you may see options to make it easier to use. This may be things like using a digital wallet to pay for items. Some options have extra Terms you must follow before you can use them, so we recommend having your Parent help set it up.
Information that helps recognize you when logging into your mobile device or our apps is part of your device settings and not shared with Bank of America.
For a full list of the types of information we collect about you, see the "More Information" section at the bottom of this Policy.
Why does Bank of America need information about me?
We collect your information so you can look at the account and help us do things like prove who you are, speak with you if you need help with the account, and help us detect things that don't look right on the account. In some cases, we may use Persistent Identifiers to help us do these types of things. Think of Persistent Identifiers like your student ID number. If you change classes or grade levels, that number stays with you. Any information we gather about you is to help make the account work correctly.
See the section called, “More Information” at the bottom of this Policy for a more detailed list of why we may need your information.
What should I do if I think something on your website may be harmful to me?
You or your Parent should let us know immediately if you feel something on our website is harmful or not appropriate. To do this, click the “Share Your Feedback” link at the bottom of this webpage. In the text box, please include as much detail as you can about what you feel is harmful. Please do not include your personal information in this box.
What can Bank of America see when I visit their website or use their mobile app?
Bank of America can see how you interact with the account, such as if you use features like Erica® or access learning tools. We may collect information and track your activities with online technology called cookies. Cookies are small files you can't see. Computers create them when you visit a website. Some cookies are needed so you can see the website and are only needed for a short time, like a bookmark to help you remember where you last stopped reading a book. Other cookies are like flags that stay with you until removed so we can remember things like places you like to spend your money. Sometimes these flags include details about you such as your name or what state you live in. How long we keep the information we get from cookies depends on the type of cookie.
You can read more about this in our Cookie policy.
How long does Bank of America keep my information?
Banks have rules and laws that tell us how long to keep data and when we can delete it. Some laws and states tell us to keep information for a certain amount of time. Since not all states have the same laws, we only keep your information for as long as the law in your state allows. If your Parent asks us to delete your information, we will do it when the law allows.
Who does Bank of America share my information with?
We only share your Personal Information with people or companies that need to know your information for reasons specific to the Services provided. We will not share your Personal Information for any other reason.
For a full list of the types of companies we may share your information with, please see the "More Information" section at the bottom of this Policy.
What can my Parent see and do?
What your Parent can see and do depends on the type of account you use. If your Parent is an owner or co-owner of the account, they may be able to see what you do with the account. This includes how and when you use it. It could also include seeing and getting alerts when you buy something or use the ATM. They may also be able to control how much money you spend or where you spend it.
Children, your Parent will likely control many of the things you can do with the account, like how we can contact you about the account or the types of things you can buy.
Teens, you will be able to do more with the account like using our virtual assistant, Erica. Some of our Services allow your Parent to see and control activity on the account, including requesting us to remove your information, limit your daily spending or ask that we not contact you. In some cases, the removal of your information may require us to close the account.
Because we offer many types of Services, we suggest you talk with your Parent to understand the type of account you use and what your Parent may be able to see and do.
What are my Privacy Rights?
Children and Teens, you have Rights related to our collection and use of your Personal Information wherever you live in U.S.:
- Right to Know – Learn what types of personal information we collect about you.
- Right to Access – You can ask to see the information we have about you, if we still have it.
- Right to Challenge or Correct – If information we have about you is wrong or needs to be fixed, you can ask us to change it.
- Right to Object – If you don’t want us to keep collecting or using your information, you can ask us to stop. If we stop, we might need to close your account.
- Right to Delete – If you don’t want us to keep certain information about you, you can ask us to delete it. This could include things you sent us online or on your account. Please note that deleting some information may mean we have to close your account.
Parents, when you are the owner or co-owner of an account that your child or teen uses, you may exercise any of the above Rights on their behalf. Additionally, you have the following Rights under COPPA (children under 13 years of age), which vary from the Rights your child and teen have:
- Refuse to permit further contact with your Child
- Review and update the Personal Information collected online about your Child
- Refuse to permit further collection, use or maintenance of your Child’s Personal Information
- Request the deletion of your Child’s Personal Information
- Request the deletion of the Parent's online contact information
To act on any of the Rights listed above, please contact us using one of the options listed in the "To Exercise Your Rights" section below.
In accordance with COPPA, if at any time you wish to revoke consent to collect, use or maintain your Child’s Personal Information, or ask that their information be deleted, we will remove their online profile and close the related account; their information will be deleted when legally permitted.
Those who live in California may have additional Rights. We recommend reading our California Consumer Privacy Notice to learn more.
