A passkey is a passwordless log in method that verifies your identity. Passkeys are securely stored on your device (phone, tablet or computer) or in your password manager.

Benefits of using a passkey:

• Easier: No password to remember or enter
• Increased security: Helps protect against phishing and credential theft

Passkeys are designed to be highly secure. They are resistant to being stolen, guessed or leaked in a data breach and do not rely on shared login information between apps and websites.

Passkeys help protect your account by eliminating the need to remember or enter passwords and other login information that can be stolen, guessed or reused. This reduces the risk of unauthorized access.

Passkeys are two unique keys. A public key, stored by Bank of America, and a private key, which is never shared with Bank of America, stored on your device or in a password manager, such as Apple iCloud Keychain® or Google Password Manager. The two keys work together to verify your identity when you log in.

Yes. If your password manager supports syncing, you can use your passkey on multiple devices connected to the same password manager account.

Most people only need one passkey because most passkeys work across multiple devices. However, if you use more than one password manager, you can create an additional passkey for each password manager.

No. Each passkey is unique to the person, app or website it was created for.

For example, a passkey created for your Bank of America account cannot be used to log in to another app or website.

By default, passkeys are named for the password manager where they were originally created. If you want, you can rename your passkey to something that’s easier to remember.

Deleting a passkey is a two-step process:

1. Delete the passkey from your Bank of America account
2. Delete the passkey from the password manager, browser, or device where it is stored

This helps ensure you are not prompted to use that passkey the next time you log in.

• Create passkeys only on devices you own and trust
• If you share a device, save passkeys only within your private user profile or personal password manager
• Do not create or store passkeys on public or shared devices
• Enable multi-factor authentication (MFA) on your password manager whenever available to add an extra layer of security

Yes. Your password would be a back-up method for logging in.

In some cases, passkey creation may not be available on your device or with your preferred password manager. This can happen because of device settings, browser or operating system limitations, organizational security policies, or password manager compatibility requirements. If you’re unable to create a passkey:

• Check that your device, browser, and operating system support passkeys
• Make sure passkeys are enabled in your device or password manager settings
• If you're using a work-managed device, contact your organization's IT support, as security policies may restrict passkey use
• If your preferred password manager isn't supported, try using a different password manager or the passkey option available directly through your device

These requirements are determined by your device manufacturer, software provider, password manager, or employer and may be outside of Bank of America’s control.
